Hyundai enters luxury car market, but how does it shape up?

You never thought you’d hear it. Hyundai is entering the luxury car market. In times gone by the Hyundai would be the butt of many jokes.

Favourites being: ‘Why does a Hyundai have a heated rear window? To keep your hands warm when you push it.’ Another: ‘What information is printed on pages four and five of a Hyundai user manual? The bus and train timetables.’

When I owned the Pony, people would recommend I sell my car for cash right away. Or, tell me I was better off with a real pony!

Fast forward to 2015, the Genesis is entering the highly-competitive luxury car market already dominated by the German big three: Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Having been a hit in the US and China, this luxury saloon means business. Whilst certainly ambitious, this 3.8-litre 311bhp V6 South Korean mean machine has its work cut out going up against the likes of the high-torque, low-CO2 diesels dominating the UK big executive car market.

Fresh News On The Best Korean Cars!

In the world, things happen at the speed of sound, so don’t be surprised to hear that many elements have changed since last week. Especially in the car manufacturing business which tries to surprise its buyers with new and interesting stuff. Let’s see together if they actually manage to do this or not.

The biggest and latest fact about our beloved Korean cars revolves around Kia and Hyundai. These two companies are faced with another lawsuit due to their incorrect mpg claims that have misled the buyers. This problem appeared in the U.S. Central District Court in Los Angeles and people declare they have been led to believe that the mileage will be smaller. Surprise! It didn’t happen this way and now the two companies want to compensate the ones that had to suffer. But, since no job is that easy, the declarations states that the compensations offered will not cover the lost value of the vehicles.

“Plaintiffs and the Class have been damaged by Hyundai’s and Kia’s misrepresentations, concealment, and non-disclosure of the incorrect fuel economy numbers, because they were misled into purchasing Hyundais and Kias of a quality different than they were promised, and paying higher fuel costs they would not otherwise have paid.” This is a quote from the suit that hopes to bring in the amount of $775 million. Don’t know if they are going to make it, but the models who are kept under observation are the 2012 Hyundai Accent, 2012/13 Elantra, 2012/13 Veloster and from the Kia lineup Optima Hybrid, Rio, Soul and Sportage.

We don’t know how this is going to end, but we do promise to stick to the news and find out more. However, this lawsuit will probably not affect Kia and Hyundai as much as the “enemies” would want. And as a proof we have the Kia K3 that has revealed its quality looks. Built on a  Cee’d platform, this car will feature a 1.6 l  GDi petrol engine that can deliver up to 140 hp. Among features, buyers will enjoy chrome body mouldings, big alloys, satnav, trip computer and leather seats. Pretty interesting if you ask me. For the US this K3 will be known as Forte while for the rest of the world it will wear the Cerato name.

And last but not least, Hyundai (the Veloster model) comes up with a dual clutch gearbox that plans to improve fuel economy and give sports drivers a better experience.  The intention is to offer a new satisfaction to those with a serious driving background that are looking for something new from a car. With the suit and all, comes a bit ironic, but life goes on and everyone must move with the flow.

Well, pretty much this is the news that will keep the car fans wondering what is going to happen next. Plenty of people are eager to learn about the new updated brought to the models but a mistake like this might cause real disappointment among buyers.

We will try to come back with fresh news and see what will happen next. Until then, have a fabulous weekend!

Hot News From The 2012 SEMA Auto Show!

We haven’t even erased the Paris grin of our faces that we are already in for another treat: the 2012 SEMA Show! For those of you who are not very familiarized with the insights of this show, here you have some general notions about this lovely event.

This year’s SEMA will take place on October 30th  – November 2nd  at the Las Vegas Convention Center. What better place to have fun with unique concepts if not in Las Vegas, right? Here, some of the greatest minds of “carring” will meet and spend a few fabulous days together, time during which those present here will have the chance to learn many useful things. For example, the attendees will enjoy educational seminars, cool product demonstrations, special events, networking opportunities and many other interesting things. This is to die for!

Unfortunately, the SEMA is a trade-only event and not open to the general public unless they want to leave there with a new best friend. So you will have to check info about it online, instead of actually living the dream. But don’t get discouraged, because this is fantastic too.

Last year, over 60, 000 local and international buyers were present at the show and they had the chance to see a lot of fabulous stuff. ATVs, Korean cars, luxury, muscle, offroad, sports cars, compact, trucks or exotic cars and parts, tools or components.   And speaking about Korean, which I am sure you have been all wanting to see at this show, rumor has it that we will be seeing a couple of good models.

Hyundai is the leader of course with 3 new concepts. At least, this is what we know so far. Ark Hyundai Genesis Coupe R-Spec Track Edition, ARK Veloster “Alpine” and Veloster Velocity Concept.

The former two ones are in partnership with the fabulous ARK Performance. For the first one, these guys decided to upgrade the Genesis Coupe 3.8-liter, direct-injected engine to a fantastic 395 horsepower at 6800 rpm and  340 lb.-ft. at 5400 rpm (axle-flexing). And as you’ve probably already noticed, the exterior is pretty unique in design. They added sporty flared over-fenders, an aggressive front splitter, a carbon-fiber hood with heat-extractor vents, ARK carbon plate clutch kit and dual mass flywheel, Yokohama ADVAN RS2 wheels and Nitto NT05 tires. Stunning!

For the second concept signed by ARK,  a Veloster was used and the boom is in the interior. The theme called Alacantra is destined to the snow lovers and is decorated with leather and WeatherTek breathable fabric, includes bigger brakes, a coilover system, and a practical air motion cup suspension kit.

And last but not least, the Velocity concept is tuned by the guys at Cosworth and among some of its features also adds performance pistons, a great turbocharger, an intercooler, intake manifold and charging design. The engine leads 400 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque, while the Kumho Ecsta SPT 275/35R19 high performance summer tires are simply amazing.

This is pretty much all for today folks. But don’t worry, because next week I will come back with fresh and exciting news about the SEMA 2012 Show, Korean cars and many other interesting topics. Stay tuned and enjoy a fabulous weekend!!
