The 2022 Subaru Forester remains an excellent choice for a family crossover. Subaru constantly keeps the Forester up to date with new updates so it can stay competitive among its peers like that Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. Also, the Forester is Subaru’s best-selling vehicle in America, despite introducing the larger model Ascent SUV with seven seats Late 2018.
2022 Subaru Forester: What’s New?
the outgoing forester came with more standard equipment such as high beam assistant and steering LED headlights. For 2022, the new Forester has a redesigned front grille, updated headlights and fog lamp covers, and a ladder-like roof rail design weighing in at 800 lbs. Total Exercise Limit (from last year’s 700 lbs. Exercise limit). Other changes include two additional utility hooks in the rear cargo area and brighter LED interior lighting with switch-off delay.
Also new for 2022 is a more robust Wilderness trim with higher ground clearance, chunky tires and more. In addition, every 2022 Forester comes standard with an updated EyeSight driver assistance technology Package. The package includes safety functions such as adaptive cruise control, a lane departure warning system with roll warning as well as brake and throttle valve control prior to a collision.
2022 Subaru Forester: Trim levels
The 2022 Subaru Forester is available in six trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Wilderness, Limited and Touring. The 2.5-liter boxer engine from Subaru with direct injection is standard across the product range. It pumps 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft. Of torque and delivers up to 26 in the city, 33 on the highway and a combined 29 mpg. The only exception is the wilderness trim. With its extra gear and off-road goodies, fuel consumption drops to 25/28 city / highway and 26 combined.
Regardless of the equipment variant, the power goes to all four wheels via the symmetrical all-wheel drive system from Subaru and a Lineartronic CVT transmission. The Subaru Forester has a maximum pulling force of 3,000 lbs. and comes with Trailer Stability Assist as standard.

Ranger base
Starting at $ 26,320, this model is great value for money. It has all-power convenience, two USB ports, keyless remote control and a multifunction display. Also standard in the Forester Base is a 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen with multiple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity. It also comes with SiriusXM and, for some strange reason, a CD player.
Subaru is offering an optional package for $ 625 that includes 17-inch alloy wheels and silver roof rails.
The Premium starts at $ 29,320 and offers more features than the basic version, such as a 10-way driver’s seat, black 17-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and privacy glass. Subaru’s all-weather package is standard on Forester Premium and includes heated front seats, windshield wiper de-icers and heated side mirrors. Other premium features such as a leather steering wheel and chrome door handles are also standard.
The Forester Premium also houses Subaru’s X-Mode with hill descent control for better traction in inhospitable terrain. The only optional package for Forester Premium is a $ 1,165 security upgrade that adds lane change assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic warning, automatic emergency steering, and an electric tailgate with automatic lock and height memory.
Forester Sports
The new Subaru Forester Sport has a base price of $ 30,890. It has bespoke gloss black exterior trim, orange accents, black 18-inch wheels and a black roof spoiler. Inside, the sport has a dark gray interior with orange accents. It also receives other standard features such as automatic emergency steering, rear cross traffic warning, blind spot detection and lane change assistant. The Sport version also has Dual X-Mode for better off-road smarts.
You can upgrade Forester Sport with an optional $ 1,645 package that includes an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, Harman Kardon audio system, automatic reverse braking, and an electric tailgate.
Forester wilderness
New for 2022 is the Wilderness Trim, the toughest forester of all. Starting at $ 33,945, it has 9.2-inch higher ground clearance, longer coil springs, new shock absorbers, 17-inch matte black alloy wheels, and Yokohama Geolandar off-road tires. It also has a full spare wheel under the cargo area.
The Forester Wilderness also gets bespoke off-road exterior details such as a hexagonal front grille, wheel arch linings, a front underrun protection, hexagonal LED fog lights and a matte black bonnet sticker to reduce glare off-road. You can add the optional package for $ 1,850 if you like the larger 8-inch touchscreen and Harman Kardon audio system.
Forester Limited
The 2022 Subaru Forester Limited builds on the premium equipment and adds black 18-inch alloy wheels, body-colored exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals and dark gray accents on the fog lights. It also receives perforated leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped control tiller and gear knob, two-zone automatic climate control with voice control, two USB ports at the rear and an electric tailgate. In addition, Forester Limited has automatic emergency steering and rear seat backrests that fold at the push of a button. Base prices start at $ 33,000.
As usual, Forester Limited has a $ 1,695 option pack that adds automatic reverse braking, an 8-inch infotainment screen with navigation, a heated steering wheel, and a Harman Kardon audio system.
Forester tour
Last but not least, the Subaru Forester Touring 2022 is available for prices starting at $ 36,420. The top model Forester Touring has dark gray 18-inch alloy wheels, exterior mirrors in satined chrome, glossy black decorative elements on the B and C-pillars, black or brown perforated leather upholstery, a 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, heated outside seats in the rear, and LED fog lights with chrome trim. A DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System with gesture control is also standard.
